Matthew 5:4

"Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted."

Life has a way of bringing about circumstances and  situations that drive us to tears. Death, tragedy, afflictions, extreme hurts can weigh a heart down. Such is the state of one who "mourns."One of the meanings of "comforted" is to call to one's side. Jesus knowing this, declared His promise of comfort.

The comfort He offers comes in a variety of ways. As I write this I am reminded of the time I was sitting in a chapel waiting for my aunt's funeral to begin. As I sat there, alone, in the quietness of my thoughts I despaired about her eternal destination. The fact that I had so many doubts and questions only multiplied my mourning. It was in the midst of this that the Lord softly whispered to me , "It is all right. She is here with me."

Don't let the devil fool you into thinking comfort = deliverance from a situation. Comfort is when the world's best friend comes and asks, "Can we do this together?" This is what God has promised in this verse.
There many things God does to build faith within us, but don't forget this one fact. He enjoys giving us comfort. He does it because He loves us that much. Any faith it builds is just an added blessing.

Poem From God

The other morning I was blessed by the Lord with a poem about our care for each other as brothers and sisters in the Lord. I hope you can enjoy it as much as I did.

                  If  Only I Knew

If only I knew what you were fighting today
For then I would get on my knees and pray

If only I knew how I could be of service to you
For then I would give support in all you do

If only I knew the pain you are feeling within
For then I would prove that I'm truly your friend

If only I knew how your body suffered in pain
For then I would beg the Master to make you whole again

If only I knew your emotions were on low tide
For then next to you I would abide

If only I knew you walked in the valley of despair
For then I would show you how much I care

If only I knew the deep seated joy you felt
For then with gladness my heart would melt

If only I knew in the darkness you sit alone
For then I would ask Jesus to step off His throne

If only I knew that you needed a listening ear
For then I would suddenly appear

If only I knew that life was becoming too much
For then I would offer a tender touch

If only I knew how the devil was beating you down
For then I would pick you up and carry you around

If only I knew you didn't think much of who you are
For then I would tell you of the times you have been my star

If only I knew what you are in need of
For then I would give to you in love

If only I knew you had need of me
For then at your service I would be

If only you knew how much I needed you
For then you wouldn't be ashamed to need me too

If only we knew it is God's plan
For then we would support each other over life's span

If only we knew and understood this tinge of light
For then many of our days would be peaceful and bright
